little house of savages

Went to see The Walkmen play at Richard's last night.

Mazarin kicked off the show. The Philadelphia quartet played a solid opening set. They had a Walkmen-esque sound to them, in so much that The Walkmen actually covers one of Mazarin's songs on their new release. The drummer for Mazarin was pretty crazy and had some sweet rockouts, despite having a really basic drum setup.

The Walkmen came on and played a straight-up no gimmick needed rock set. Vocalist Hamilton Leithauser pretty much shouts when he sings. I wonder if he gets a really sore throat after shows? I think he would make a good poster boy for Vicks Cough Drops.

I found that their new album A Hundred Miles Off came across so much better live. Their energy on stage adds a lot to their music. During Louisiana, they brought out an extra female trumpet player to help out. The drumming in The Rat just kicks ass. They ended up playing for only 1hr including an encore, but the intensity of their set made up for it.

  • Yeah, it looks like Ian's going to create a Let Me On Survivor Movie. I hear it's gonna feature flying squirrels, alligator wrestling, and all sorts of crazy stuff. It'll be off the hizzle!
