Solace

Went to see Xavier Rudd play at the Malkin Bowl last night. Before Xavier played for us, a chief came on stage to lead us in a special chant.

Another acquaintance of Xavier also came out to demonstrate some different sounds of the didgeridoo.

Xavier played a fantastic set that demonstrated his multi-talents. He's basically a one man show, playing many different instruments and some at the same time. These included the didgeridoo, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, stomp box, windchimes, shakers, djembe, and an aztec drum. A common setup for him for a song would include playing a didgeridoo with his mouth, guitar with his hands, and stomp box with his feet. It was pretty insane to watch.

In addition, Xavier has a very strong vocal range that really shines through in a live setting. He also played a nice cover of No Woman No Cry.

Throughout the show, Xavier would constantly discuss the notion of releasing good energy. He was very comfortable and at ease on stage. The audience was also very relaxed. At one point, three people from the crowd got on stage and started dancing. Security eventually came out and escorted them off the stage one by one.

Xavier played for quite a long time. 2hrs in total. His main set lasted 1hr 30mins and he did a long 30min encore. In the end, I was really impressed with his performance and talents.

  • I saw him too the other night in Salmon Arm, he was pretty alright, I really liked the guy that opened for him Ridley Bent, it was so chill but his encore seriously went on forever it was crazy.

loved all the pics of the festival too, so jealous, and I am jealous you are going to counting crows.
